Liverpool Innovation Park Advisory Group

To help Space North West develop an open innovation environment, network, and external links of interest to our tenant community we regularly consult with experts through the Liverpool Innovation Park Advisory Group.

The Group is comprised of representatives from Liverpool’s world-leading universities, the city’s economic development company, business support specialists from Business Link North West, NHS innovation specialists, the regional development agency, tenant companies, and Space North West.

Brief biographies below give more information about individual members.

Dr Karl Bamford – Healthcare Innovations Manager, TrusTech.

Karl provides advice and support on Intellectual Property management and commercialising technologies in the NHS for the Merseyside area. He previously directed Research at Merseyside’s Medical Laser Institute, and has held senior technology development roles in spin-out companies.

Jon Barrett – Director of Commercial and Enterprise Development, Liverpool John Moore’s University

With 17 years private sector change management roles, Jon has experience in selling, purchasing, setting up businesses, and recruiting and managing teams. He currently leads LJMU’s business gateway team.

John Chisholm – Innovation Manager, Business Link North West

John currently leads Business Link NW’s innovation team supporting the growth and development of fast growing businesses across England’s North West. He has a wealth of expertise in design management and development, university lecturing, and knowledge transfer.

Emily D’Ambrosio – Regional Manager, Ashtenne Space North West

Specialising in real estate and property management, Emily has direct responsibility and oversight of a multi-million Pound property portfolio managed by Ashtenne from its North West regional office at Liverpool Innovation Park.

Graham Knott – Chairman, Gardner Systems Plc

Graham leads a highly successful IT infrastructure and services company long associated with Intel, IBM and Microsoft. He also has affiliations with Business Liverpool, the Dream High Seroli project supporting entrepreneurs, and chairs Liverpool’s Eastern Approaches Business Leaders Group.

Martin Lloyd – Head of Land and Property (Liverpool), NWDA

Formerly Head of Property at NWDA and Director of Norwepp (General) Partners Ltd, Martin is currently seconded to Liverpool Vision. He brings a wealth of urban regeneration and public sector property management experience to the Group.

Dr Simon Longden – Head of Business Gateway, University of Liverpool

With significant experience of knowledge transfer, managing commissioned research, and managing private sector partnerships with academic institutions, Simon now leads University of Liverpool’s Business Gateway team in enabling businesses of all sizes to benefit from access to world-leading research.   

David Sanderson – Innovation Manager (Areas), NWDA

Trained in metallurgy, David has worked on 4 continents within both the public and private sectors. Before attaining his current specialism in the development of innovation infrastructure including science parks, started 3 small businesses and has worked for the British Council and Diplomatic Service.

Steve Smith – ICT Sector Champion, Liverpool Vision

Steve's experience in leading Merseyside's vibrant ICT sector, forging national and international links for its businesses, and delivering dynamic international connection forums such as Software City, brings a uniquely effective approach and considerable expertise to the Group.

Richard Spragg – Technical Director, AIMES Grid Services

As a Director with one of LIP’s largest tenant companies, a Director of Greater Merseyside Digital Development Agency, and Freckle Marketing, Richard is ideally placed to advise on the development of LIP.

Dr Mark Tock – Innovation Manager, Liverpool Innovation Park

Formerly a research scientist, Mark established Sheffield’s successful biotech business incubator. He is now responsible for developing the Park’s soft infrastructure, managing key stakeholder relationships, and advising on development of the Park itself.
