Knowledge Economy Connections

Liverpool is home to a unique and impressive mix of knowledge generators (universities, colleges, teaching hospitals, and multi-national companies) and economic assets (business incubators, science and innovation parks, cultural facilities, and transport termini).

Together these assets are a highly attractive source of skilled staff, collaborators, and potential customers that add real value to commercial knowledge-based investments in the Liverpool city region.

Physical links:

The city’s economic assets provide an escalator of accommodation for growing science, technology, and knowledge-based firms. The LIP site on Liverpool’s eastern gateway of Edge Lane provides an integral part of that offer to such companies.

Along with much of the North West’s knowledge infrastructure, all of Liverpool’s knowledge economy can be accessed within 10 minutes of LIP’s Edge Lane campus via enviable transport links.

Engaging knowledge assets:

To enable efficient interaction with Liverpool’s knowledge assets, the Space North West team organise a number of Tenant Networking (business and social) opportunities.  These include:

  • Business breakfasts
  • Drop-in clinics
  • Tenant intranet
  • Parklife programme
  • Newsletter

The Space NW team also regularly meet with the City’s universities, hospitals, and business community both with LIP tenants’ immediate needs in mind, and with a view to creating spaces conducive to social, commercial and educational interaction. Local and regional knowledge economy partners are encouraged to use such spaces, including LIP’s planned Networking Hub, to engage LIP tenants.

The University of Liverpool, and LJMU both engage businesses via collabrative projects, commissioned research, knowledge transfer partnerships, Case studentships, and consultancy services.
