The PDAs (Personal Digital Assistant) and the ContainerPort Community Web Portal represent two of the core components of the solution.

With drivers using a simple PDA user interface to i) update the shipment status, ii) obtain electronic signatures for proof of delivery and collection, and iii) update/receive business critical information (e.g. security PIN, seal numbers, ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) etc.), ContainerPort not only provides its users with improved visibility over operations, but helps to streamline business processes and act as a decision support tool, with features including search facilities (containers, drivers and vehicles), opportunities to optimise vehicle utilisation through the marketplace and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) such as waiting time and on-time deliveries.

Instant access to positional data and shipment status enables optimisation opportunities that can potentially reduce operational haulage costs by up to 30% and deliver cash flow improvements for hauliers.

ContainerPort provides users with on-demand access to an array of business critical information, such as electronic Proof of Delivery Notes within moments of the goods being signed for. The solution uses GPS (Global Positioning System) and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) technologies to determine positional data of shipments and transmit information relating to the job status from the PDA to the Marketplace. The integrated mapping web-service provides a mechanism by which ContainerPort users have real-time visibility over the current location of shipments and the associated ETA. The solution also enables the electronic completion of vehicle maintenance reports.
